Energy infrastructure under attack in the region
The country's power facilities have faced increased attacks in recent weeks

Overnight, Moscow's missile and drone strikes have caused blackouts in large parts of the capital city, Kyiv.

Nine people were hurt while local people in eastern neighborhoods were plunged into darkness and faced interruptions to water systems, per reports from city officials.

Meanwhile, a seven-year-old child was killed in a distinct assault in the Zaporizhzhia area in the southeastern part, according to area administrators.

Russian forces has intensified strikes on energy facilities over the past few days, while Ukrainian leadership has demanded "real steps" from partner nations to increase pressure on Moscow.

"What is required is not window dressing but strong steps - from the United States, the EU and the G7 - in providing defensive weapons and implementing restrictions," was stated in a social media post.

Authorities reported that 450 drones and more than 30 projectiles targeted the country's power systems, characterizing such attacks as "cynical and calculated" and against "critical infrastructure" as temperatures become colder.

The energy minister said Russia was "inflicting a massive strike" and technical staff were striving to repair systems.

A wave of strikes struck energy infrastructure and residential structures in the capital.

Five out of the nine people hurt in the attacks on the capital have been taken to hospital, per statements from municipal representatives.

Area administrators said the metropolitan region experienced heavy assaults throughout the evening. A young boy was killed and multiple civilians were hurt.

The assaults succeed evenings of bombing campaigns in the territory, portions of which remain under the control of Moscow's military.

The whole nation is on alert for advanced weapon attacks, which are harder to detect.

Government officials told the media that Russia was purposely seeking to destroy the electrical infrastructure, with attacks already impacting fuel infrastructure.

Authorities confirmed technical personnel and authorities were bracing for more assaults.
