A man who laced candy with sedative and gave them to minors at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offences against two young males both between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at the location in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the courthouse on recently.

Yet, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer program which he operated.

The man conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, the prosecutor said, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She told the court the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously become sick the following morning.

She said the man had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had concerns in summer 2025.

The prosecutor stated further: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about the situation, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to investigate in the man's possessions."

The legal counsel explained materials including infant oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were found, and his stepchild notified the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She said the man went on to conduct the "candy game" with six children that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that point," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was examining the police response of the situation.

The legal representative stated the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the authorities again.

She stated the defendant then played the "sweet game" in a space of five youngsters.
